Safety 1st Cabinet and Toilet Locks Recalled

According to several news agencies, Safety 1st Toilet and Cabinet Locks are being recalled over possible lock failures.

The official recall announcement recently issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission demonstrates that a child could easily disengage these locks. According to the federal agency, unintended access to hazardous materials could pose a health risk to children.

This recall announcement was deemed necessary after the company received at least 110 reports of locks designed for toilets failing to keep the lid secure and other 278 reports of cabinet locks failing to keep contents properly locked away. One of the reports was related to a small child who was able to gain access to toxic beads from a craft kit, according to the CPSC statement.

The firm has confirmed that at least 868,000 units of Toilet and Cabinet locks manufactured by Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. are affected and should be refrained from being used.

If you have one of these recalled items in your possession, please contact the manufacturer or the place of purchase to return the item and receive a functional replacement lock in return.

It’s my hope as a San Diego personal injury lawyer that this recall campaign is carried out successfully. I urge you as a parent to put any hazardous materials that could be at the reach of your child away until the replacement locks are shipped to you. Whenever you hear about a recall alert that is related to a product you own or that is designed for your children and that could pose a health or safety risk to them, act fast.

If you or a loved one is involved in an incident related to a defective and recalled product, please consider consulting with a personal injury lawyer Long Beach near you to have your case fully assessed by a professional attorney.

Rollover Accident Leaves Baby Injured

According to several news articles, a woman from Woodland and her baby were able to escape serious injury after an accident that happened last Tuesday morning.

The official wreck report issued by the California Highway Patrol has revealed that the 19-year-old woman was driving her 1997 Acura Integra on the westbound lanes of the Country Road 25A when her vehicle suddenly started veering off to the side of the road as a result of a momentarily distraction. The troopers who responded to the scene claim that the child in the back seat drew the woman’s attention away from the road when the vehicle drove off the road and into a ditch on the north side of Country Road 25A.

The car then flipped over and crashed into the drainage ditch that wasn’t too full of water at the time of the accident. The 19-year-old woman was able to get out of the car and take her 18-month-old baby with her. The driver didn’t sustain any injuries while the baby suffered minor wounds.

Both car occupants were taken to the hospital for treatment and precaution.

It’s my hope as a personal injury lawyer San Bernardino that the baby is recovering quickly from any wounds it may have sustained. I hate to learn about accidents that result in injuries, especially when children are involved. Hopefully, other young drivers will learn from this occurrence and will keep from allowing any distractions from taking their attention away from the road ahead.

Keep it in mind that if you’re ever injured in an auto accident that was caused by a reckless and inattentive driver, you could consider consulting with a Los Angeles car accident lawyer near you to ask for a free evaluation of your case.

Route 33 Wreck Results in Three Injuries

A collision on state Route 33 resulted in injuries for three people. The crash occurred around 4pm when four cars collided on Route 33. The wreck caused the road to close for approximately one hour. A 60-year-old woman was driving her SUV westbound along Route 33 when a Toyota suddenly slammed into her car, sending her vehicle into an SUV. The SUV then veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole. Another vehicle skidded into a ditch off the roadway. The 85-year-old driver of the Toyota was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center immediately. Drivers were detoured so emergency crews could clear the crash scene, according to news reports.

As an auto accident attorney Germantown, my thoughts are with those involved in this crash and I hope nobody else was injured. North Carolina To Maintain Current Safety and Emission Test Rules

An effort in North Carolina to allow drivers to skip mandatory safety and emissions inspections until the vehicle they’re operating is more than three years old has failed.  In fact, it didn’t even make it out of committee.

In a 7 to 5 vote, the House-Senate Joint Transportation Oversight Committee decided against allowing the provision, despite the fact that the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee had readily endorsed the measure just two weeks prior.  Those in favor of the bill were disappointed, saying that the government shouldn’t have to intervene on certain things like verifying proper tread depth.  Plus, it was said, such a measure would ease the burden of unnecessary additional fees on people who have just bought a car.

Those who sought to squelch the bill offered a different perspective.  Some senators thought that allowing the new provision would hurt those businesses that have come to rely on the inspections for revenue.  Another reason for voting against the bill seemed to be a concern that certain safety violations might indeed slip by, endangering life.

Right now, the state of North Carolina requires vehicles to get the annual safety check and the emissions check in 48 mostly urban counties.  An emissions inspection runs the vehicle owner about $30, while the less costly safety inspection costs about $13.60 on average.

As a Ventura car accident lawyer, I understand that many Californians probably know a thing or two about safety and emissions checks.  No matter what lawmakers decide, I just hope as a personal injury attorney in Ventura that consumer safety is preserved.

Crash in Tracy Claims Life

According to several news sources, a fatal accident that happened in Tracy last weekend is still under investigation.

The official crash report released by the California Highway Patrol shows that a 64-year-old man was found dead inside of an overturned vehicle lying off Corral Hollow Road in a creek bed. The troopers who responded to the scene say that the man was reportedly missing, which prompted the local police to send a rescue team to search the area for the Tracy resident. According to the news, the man’s Honda Accord crashed just a mile south of Interstate 580. Although the local authorities were also looking for the man, friends were driving the road looking for him when his wrecked vehicle was spotted in the creek bed.

The authorities concluded that the accident might have happened while the man was driving on the northbound lanes of the Corral Hollow Road. He may have failed to turn with the roadway, which prompted his vehicle to drive off the side of the road and overturn.

Reeds in the creek might have covered the vehicle, which made it difficult for passerby drivers to notice the wrecked car.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

It’s terribly saddening as an Irvine personal injury lawyer to learn that an accident like this has claimed the life of a motorist. My most heartfelt condolences go out to the man’s family and closest friends during this time. I’ve witnesses several accidents like this in the past and urge motorists to remember that drowsy driving can be fatal. If you feel you’re too tired to continue, please consider pulling over to a safe spot to take a nap before continuing. Do not put your life at risk.

Whenever you or a loved one is injured in an accident that was caused by a distracted driver, you might want to consider consulting with a personal injury lawyer near you to learn more about the legal options available to your case.

Franck’s Lab Expands Recall of Drug Contaminated by Fungus

On March 29, 2011, an Ocala, Florida-based compounding lab known as Franck’s lab had contacted five doctors to inform them of the recall of triamcinolone acetonide P.F. 80 mg/ml due to it having become infected with fungus. The original recall about this item was successfully issued and involved eight prescriptions.  Each and every one of those prescriptions were accounted for and disaster seemed to have been averted, but circumstances have been such that an expansion of that recall was necessitated.

To make sure there were no issues with the prescription, it was determined that an additional lot would have to be recalled. This new recall involves five prescriptions that were filled out by four different physicians. All doctors’ offices that had issued the prescription have been contacted about the recall.

Franck’s lab is telling doctors that they can contact them should they have a question about the recall.  They can also get in touch with Franck’s should they also have a question about any item that has triamcinolone acetonide in it and was distributed by Franck’s lab.

As a personal injury attorney in Oakland, I’m sorry to see prescriptions that are meant to protect lives possibly pose a danger.  I hope that, like the original recall, all prescriptions contained within this expansion can be accounted for so that people can be safe.  Being a Roseville personal injury lawyer, I understand how vital it is that medicines do what they purport to rather than further endanger a patient.

FDA Panel Recommends HIV Prevention Pill

Media outlets reported that a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel, comprised of experts that consult the FDA, recently voted in support of approving Truvada, a daily pill meant to prevent HIV in healthy individuals.

The FDA is not obligated to adhere to the 22-member panel’s recommendation, however the agency historically does. Should the FDA approve the new HIV medication, Truvada will be the first drug meant specifically for preventing uninfected individuals from acquiring HIV or AIDS. The panel voted 19 to 3 in favor of approving the medication for us in non-HIV-infected men who engage in intercourse with men, the highest risk group.

The panel came to its conclusion through reviewing efficacy and safety data from multiple clinical studies of Truvada as a pre-exposure prophylaxis. The members of the panel that voted against the medication’s recommendation for approval did so for various reasons, including concerns that the drug could provide users with a false sense of security and result in a drug-resistant strain of HIV. One member believes there was inadequate data on the risk for kidney problems in African-Americans, a group considered to be most at risk for developing kidney issues while taking AIDS medications.

The majority of the panel believes that the medication will be a useful tool in preventing HIV infection, alongside preexisting methods.

As a Harrisburg personal injury lawyer, I’m glad to see that research into this area of medicine has yielded a product that could potentially benefit consumers. Companies do a lot to ensure the quality and safety of their products, however, on occasion, mistakes are made. If you’ve suffered adverse health effects through the use of a defective medical product, it could be in your interests to speak with a Lancaster personal injury lawyer.

Teens Admit to Texting and Driving

According to recent news articles, at least 43% of teenage drivers admit to texting while driving in the state of California.

Several California Highway Patrol troopers have stressed the importance of focusing on the road ahead and avoiding accidents by leaving your phone out of your reach while you’re behind the wheel. According to the articles mentioning this recent research, AT&T has started a campaign that is focused on showing teenage drivers that the text message that could risk their lives can wait.

The campaign “Texting & Driving… It Can Wait” puts teenagers into a simulator that illustrates the severity of engaging in a distracted behavior while behind the wheel. To diminish the risks of fatal accidents caused by drivers who are using their cellphones, the campaign was designed to demonstrate young drivers that the only solution to this problem is to literally stay away from your phone.

The virtual simulator tour will appear across the country as a part of the “No Texting and Driving” youth summit and is now traveling across California to show drivers that texting while driving is jut not worth it.

Any Sacramento personal injury lawyer can tell you how important this effort is. Hopefully, more companies will develop campaigns to show teenagers the importance of not allowing any distractions to take their attention away from what’s important: the road and the traffic surrounding them.

For more information, contact AT&T and ask about the youth summit.

If you or a loved one is ever injured in an accident caused by a distracted driver, contact a personal injury lawyer who can assess your case promptly.
